Walk 5 – Aynho - Lower Walton Grounds - Kings Sutton - Aynho

Stile from the Charlton Road
Cross this stile into the small field

Leave the Square up the path with Caton House on your left and cross School End into Butts Close, turn left and follow the road down to the Charlton Road. Cross this and the old stone stile opposite into a small field. Note the old brick building on your right. This was a wartime home guard post.

Follow the path down hill with the fence on your right, cross a stile and continue to the bottom of the field. The next field rises up in front of you and the path ahead is not always obvious, but continues in a straight line over the curve of the hill and down to the gateway into the next field. The views as you reach the crest of the hill and begin to descend are wonderful on a clear day.

Path not always obvious
Pass through the iron gate

Enter the next field and follow the field edge round to the right and then on down hill to the bottom of the field and round to the left to a stile on your right. Cross this and the small field ahead with a telegraph pole in the middle, and emerge onto a concrete road. Turn right and then almost immediately left and follow the road down a dip and up the other side to a row of houses.

To the left of the houses turn right through a metal gate and follow the path alongside the garden and up into a field. Follow the field edge to the left and pass into the next field where the path divides. Take the right fork up the hill. This can be a very muddy section. Pass through the spinney into the next field and follow the path diagonally down to the far side and then along the filed edge to the bottom of the field and onto a green track. At the farm buildings turn left and then right onto a metalled road.

The path from Holland Rise
Follow this road out to Kings Sutton Village and turn left. Walk through the village towards the church noting the green on your right. As you approach the green in front of the church the road on the left is sign posted to Aynho. Refreshments are available at the White Horse, or to the right of the cross roads at the Butchers Arms. Continue towards Aynho along the left hand pavement until you reach Holland Rise.
Cross the footbridge and turn sharp left

From here take the footpath diagonally to the left across the field. Pass through the spinney into the next field and bear right along the edge down to the bottom of this field and across the little footbridge. Turn sharp left along the field edge and follow the path along the edge into the next field. Bear right across this field to a gap in the hedge and cross the next two fields in the same way until you rejoin the outward route.

From the farm cottages, instead of following the concrete track turn left along the gravel track and enter the field on the right. Continue along the path inside the fence and round to the double iron gates. Pass through these and cross the stream by the footbridge. Follow the track up to the junction with the Green lane and back up to Aynho.

From the gravel track, enter the field on the right
